Top Ten Unsigned Bands of 07’

I’m going to write this in no particular order, so don’t read it that way. I just want to tell you about ten kick ass bands that I have found solace in this year, and you will too, trust me. C’mon, you can trust me. Have I ever steered you wrong? Well OK, when it comes to music? Yeah, that’s what I thought.

Anyways, allow me to enlighten you. I know, you’re bored with music and you want to look cool by knowing hot new bands. Well, look no further than right here cause I’m about to drop ten unsigned bands on you right now. If you like them, check out and give them props, and if not don’t hate me for it; I’m just trying to help.

A Thousand Shades of Cold (Rochester, NY)
Metal/Rock
Sounds like: Breaking Benjamin, Godsmack
www.myspace.com/athousanshadesofcold

ATSOC are a very cool band that also happens to be very talented. They have a good heavy sound with enough screaming to satisfy the metal fans and enough hooks to satisfy the rock fans. They are a good all around package for you to enjoy.

Athera (Buffalo, NY)
Emo/Pop Punk
Sounds like: Fall Out Boy, Mayday Parade
www.myspace.com/atheramusic

Athera is a band that wants to have fun. From their high energy, usually off-the-wall stage shows to their very catchy, extremely hooky music, they should have a new fan in you. Other wise, they might just all show up in your hot tub or pool someday, for no reason.

The Dreaming (Los Angeles, CA)
Rock
Sounds like: Makeshift Romeo, Stabbing Westward
www.myspace.com/thedreaming

These guys maybe the best band on this list. Not to mention I’ll be a fan of any band fronted by the tortured yet unspeakable talented Christopher Hall. His songwriting is still as emotive and powerful as it has ever been and he sure as hell found the right musicians to complement him. Check them out today.

Chris Nathan (Nashville, TN)
Rock/Pop/Singer-Songwriter
Sounds like: Maroon 5, Jason Mraz
www.myspace.com/chrisnathan

Chris is one of the best singers I have ever heard and really did a nice job putting together a band that can keep up with him. Think of the soulfulness and believability of Maroon 5 and combine with that some tendencies from Jason Mraz, John Mayer and Dave Matthews and you have Chris. Yeah, pure talent to say the least.

As Summer Dies (Buffalo, NY)
Metal/Industrial
Sounds like: Ministry, Pigface
www.myspace.com/assummerdies

Probably the best metal band in the Queen City due to their unique vocal approach and fine use of synth. They have some female/male vocal interplay, and the guitar work is very good too. That sounds like a good combination to me, and it should sound like one to you too.

Signs of Betrayal (Phoenix, AZ)
Metal/Rock
Sounds like: Evans Blue, 40 Below Summer
www.myspace.com/signsofbetrayal

I could sit here and say so much about these guys. They are one of, if not, the best unsigned bands in the entire country and their sound is just so refreshing. SOB gives me hope for the future of rock music, and when it is written and executed this well, the future looks bright. Do yourself a favor and click that link to their page. You can thank me later.

Crud (Detroit, MI)
Metal/Industrial
Sounds like: White Zombie, Marilyn Manson
www.myspace.com/cruddetroit

From their bio, I could not have said it better myself: Super-charged sex rock complete with gas masks, bikinis and blood. I'll try though – Crud is out and out full bore debauchery at its most offensive, fronted by one of the more charismatic frontmen in the states today. It’s dirty and catchy at the same time.

Lennex (Baltimore, MD)
Rock
Sounds like: Finger Eleven, Crossfade
www.myspace.com/lennex

Ah, a pure rock band. That’s what you’re getting with Lennex. You will get sincere song writing coupled with great musicianship from so me of the nicest guys I’ve ever met. They have a great stage show and you shouldn’t have to listen too much to get hooked.

Terminus Victor (Champaign, Ill)
Rock/Industrial
Sounds like: Nine Inch Nails, Filter
www.myspace.com/terminusvictor

These guys are one of the better kept secrets in the Midwest, and I guess the easiest way to describe them is plainly a wall of sound. These guys hit you like a tidal wave and when a song ends, you are left wanting more. They might catch you off guard with just how good they are.

Love Said No (Atlanta, GA)
Rock
Sounds like: Stereomud, Lifer
www.myspace.com/lovesaidnorocks

Any band fronted by the incredible Erik Rogers (Stereomud, Soundevice) is going to be good, but when you toss in guitarist Bobby Burns (Primer 55, Soulfly); it just gets better from there. These guys have a hard charging take on rock music, and it is something that I’m sure you will be into.
