August 2008: Slipknot

A long awaited new album, a new look and a new tour. Yeah, it’s safe to safe Slipknot is back with a vengeance.

Slipknot’s first record was groundbreaking to say the least. It is arguably one of the more seminal and important metal records of the last ten of 15 years. Along the way, Slipknot has given way to Stone Sour, but they have remained just as popular and just as crushing as they were in the beginning. Suffice to say, this is a band that is hard to forget.

The band has returned as they normally do with new masks. Their new marks are slightly less horrific as their last set and slightly more meaningful and subdued, but still, they are Slipknot marks so you pretty much know what to expect.

Well, the calendar has flipped to August and Slipknot is once again at the forefront of everything metal. They are co-headlining one of the most-anticipated and biggest tours of this summer, the Rockstar Mayhem festival. Some call it the new Ozzfest since Ozzfest has been relegated to a two day show and not a tour. Slipknot will take the main stage alongside Disturbed. The tour also plays host to heavy-hitters like 36 Crazyfists, Five Finger Death Punch and Dragonforce. It’s their first tour in years and they aren’t letting their fans down.

Speaking of not letting their fans down, they also return to form with their new record All Hope is Gone due out at the end of the month. Expect the record to rip and crush as everything Slipknot does, just listen to their first two expected singles, All Hope is Gone and Psychosocial. Their new tracks are a return to form of sorts for the Midwest boys, as their Vol. 3: Subliminal Verses was hailed as somewhat of a departure from the bands normal crushing sound.

They will be out all month and the foreseeable future in support of their new disc, which drops 8/26. For all dates and such, head over to www.myspace.com/slipknot1.
