Exercise Tips
Fitting Exercise into the Busiest Schedule!

Fitting Exercise into the Busiest Schedule! It’s no secret. The number one problem facing people who want to exercise regularly is a lack of time. Even when the schedule is a little more open, it seems that there is always something that comes up to prevent most people from getting the exercise they want and need.

So how do you get in an exercise routine when your schedule just won’t allow it? There may not be one, all encompassing answer but rather a combination of clever methods that can sneak exercise into even the most hectic of schedules.

Consider the following to get some exercise into your busy schedule or when you just can’t find the time to do your normal exercise routine.

Let’s start with the obvious:

• Ignore the elevator and take the stairs.

• Take a quick walk on your lunch break and during coffee breaks.

• If you work at a desk stand up and stretch once every hour.

• If you take the bus to work, get off the bus one stop early and walk the rest of the way to work.

• If you can, ride your bike to work.

• When at work, walk over to talk to coworkers rather than using the phone or instant messenger.

• When you cut the lawn, push the mower rather than use the power drive, and in winter, use the snow shovel rather than exclusively using the snow blower.

• When doing laundry, hang dry your clothes outside. Not only will you save money but you’ll get a quick workout hauling the clothes outside and hanging them on a clothes line.

Now for some of the less obvious:

• Combine TV time and workout time. Perhaps you like to watch the 6 o’clock news. Consider getting in some exercise while you watch TV.

• Stretch your muscles while on the phone.

• Park your car in the back of the parking lot and walk the extra distance.

• Spice up your household chores with dance and increased activity and movement. There’s nothing wrong with turning up the iPod and dancing around while getting your house work done.

• Spend 5 minutes stretching when you first wake up. Most people just sit and drink coffee for the first ten to fifteen minutes they are awake. Why not use the time to sneak in a little exercise.

• Take a dumbbell to work and pick it up once and a while. Just a few reps a day will be easy to fit in, even during your busiest days at work.

Getting the exercise you need to stay healthy isn’t easy, especially when your schedule is out of control, but by squeezing in activity throughout your day, you’ll at the least, be getting what you can where you can, and that may make all the difference.
