Phoenix Describes Surreal GRAMMY Experience
Phoenix now has their first GRAMMY Award. After a few days to reflect on the experience, singer Thomas Mars tells Pitchfork.com that hearing they are GRAMMY winners sounds like a joke, but he's happy to accept the honor. He notes his favorite part of the night was sitting next to Slash. Mars recalls, quote, "We talked a little - nothing too deep. We were right by Alice Cooper, too. It really felt like being on a different planet. And then when the show started, it really felt like I was on a different planet." He says both Slash and Neil Young congratulated the band.
Mars also notes, quote, "It's weird because it's very nice, but you feel some sadness to it too. It's hard to enjoy the moment. It felt like we're already on the other side of something, so the four of us are trying to protect each other. I don't know if that's a French thing." He adds that he'll definitely be displaying the award, noting it'll be nice to have something on the shelf representing his work sitting alongside all the awards his girlfriend, filmmaker Sophia Coppola, has from her career. |
