Country Stars Add To "We Are The World - 25"
Sugarland, the Zac Brown Band's Zac Brown, and Julianne Hough are among the many stars lending their voices to a remake of "We Are The World." Producer Quincy Jones and singer-songwriter Lionel Richie, who produced and co-wrote the iconic USA For Africa track with the late Michael Jackson, are behind the current project, which will raise money for the earthquake-ravaged Haiti. Haitian-born rapper Wyclef Jean is also featured on the track, along with a diverse roster that includes Jennifer Hudson, Heart, The Jonas Brothers, Gladys Knight, Oscar nominated actor Jeff Bridges, Barbra Streisand, Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Snoop Dogg, and Carlos Santana. The celebrities came together in Los Angeles on Monday to record the new version of the charity song. The world premiere of "We Are The World - 25 For Haiti" will air during NBC's coverage of the Opening Ceremony of the Vancouver Winter Olympics on February 12th. Upon its release in 1985, the original "We Are The World" quickly became the fastest selling single in history. In the years that followed, USA for Africa has raised and distributed more than 63-million-dollars in revenue from sales of the album, single and cassettes.
