Head Of Taylor Swift's Record Label Lashes Out Over GRAMMY Criticism
Taylor Swift has the support of her label. Nashville's "Tennessean" newspaper says Big Machine Records' Scott Borchetta is standing up for the 20-year-old singer-songwriter in the wake of the bad reviews she's received following her performance at last Sunday's GRAMMY Awards. He says the critics are demonstrating they, quote, "are not getting it," and are, "missing the bigger picture." He explains, quote, "The facts say she is the undisputed best communicator that we've got. When she says something, when she sings something, when she feels something, it affects more people than anybody else." Borchetta admits that Swift might not be "the best technical singer," but notes, quote, "she's probably the best emotional singer because everybody else who gets up there and is technically perfect, people don't seem to want more of it." Borchetta calls Swift "an extraordinary songwriter" whose "vocal performances are getting better," and points out, quote, "Everybody is not perfect on any given day." He adds, quote, "And nobody is arguing with the awards." He adds a challenge to Swift's critics as he laments, quote, "This is what always happens and is the unfortunate part of the American dream, that we build these people up to watch the critics tear them down. Well, you better have more than what you've got now if you think you're going to get in the ring and fight with us. So, get in the ring."
