Mary J. Blige Buys 'Stairway To Heaven' With Barker, Orianthi
Singer Mary J. Blige is buying the "Stairway To Heaven" and she's climbing those proverbial stairs along with rockers Travis Barker, Orianthi, Steve Vai, and Randy Jackson. According to Spinner.com, the unlikely group came together at Hollywood's Capitol Records studios to create a cover of the classic Led Zeppelin tune, which will be featured on an overseas release of Blige's "Stronger With Each Tear" album as a bonus track. Blige's version of "Stairway" features Blink 182's Travis Barker on drums, Orianthi and Vai on guitar, and "American Idol" judge and former Journey member Randy Jackson on bass.
Blige says of the song, quote, "I think this song is not hard at all because it's based on pure emotion. You gotta get lost in the rock n' roll moment of it all, and once you lost...all you can do is scream to the top of your lungs or go as low as you need to go. It's not a head thing -- it's a spirit thing." In Barker's words, the "Queen of Hip-Hop Soul" took the classic rock anthem and "nailed it." There could be still more Zeppelin in Blige's future, as the singer says she "wouldn't mind" a duet with the legendary band's frontman, Robert Plant. |
