Pennywise Singers Speak Out
The former and current Pennywise vocalists are discussing the band. Ex-frontman Jim Lindberg notes that despite his departure last year he's still attached to the group. He tells AlternativePress.com, quote, "I still feel like all will be the same for Pennywise. It was a huge part of my life for 20 years. Just because 'Mom' and 'Dad' couldn't get along and couldn't reconcile doesn't mean that I feel like I'm out of it." Lindberg admits it was, quote, "definitely a big change." He explains that he just had different priorities than the other band members and something had to give. New Pennywise singer Zoli Teglas says he thinks the transition has gone smoothly, and he felt like he fit in with the other guys immediately. He explains to AlternativePress.com, quote, "It's not a stretch for me to get in to be their singer because they've always been a socially conscientious band and we come from the same area, too." But Teglas admits he and Lindberg have different writing styles, which will be apparent in the new Pennywise music. However, he adds that he's not out to change the band's sound, so he's been trying to merge Lindberg's style with his own. He notes, quote, "It's cool because it's been a challenge to write in a different way. Jim is such a cool and talented guy. I'm stoked to be learning about how he wrote his music, too." Pennywise is currently working on a new album, which will be their first with Teglas, and the group will be hitting the road this spring. The band will play a few dates in the Western U.S. later this month -- starting with a show in San Diego, California on March 17th -- before launching a European tour in Belgium in April. Lindberg, meanwhile, has formed a new band with Good Guys In Black drummer Alan Vega and Everest bassist Davey Latter. Their still-unnamed group is working on music with FAR's Shaun Lopez producing.
