T Bone Burnett Among Oscar Nominees
T Bone Burnett could add an Oscar to his collection of awards. The singer-songwriter is among the nominees for this weekend's Academy Awards ceremony for his work on the film "Crazy Heart." His song "The Weary Kind (Theme from Crazy Heart)," which he penned with Ryan Bingham, is in the running for Best Original Song. Burnett and Bingham's track is vying for the honor along with Randy Newman's "Almost There" and "Down in New Orleans," which are both from the movie "The Princess and the Frog;" Maury Yeston's "Take It All" from "Nine;" and Reinhardt Wagner and Frank Thomas' "Loin de Paname" from "Paris 36." The 82nd Annual Academy Awards will be presented in a ceremony at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood on Sunday. ABC will air the ceremony live starting at 8:00 p.m. Eastern.
This is Burnett's second chance at an Oscar. He was also nominated for Best Original Song with Elvis Costello for "Scarlet Tide," which they penned for the 2003 film "Cold Mountain." Burnett has already won several awards for his contributions to "Crazy Heart." In January the track got the nod for Best Original Song - Motion Picture at the 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards, and was named Best Song at the Broadcast Film Critics Association's 15th Annual Critics' Choice Movie Awards. In addition, Burnett's score to the movie, which he created with his late friend Stephen Bruton, was honored by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association in December. Bruton died of cancer last May. |
