Phil Collins To Receive Johnny Mercer Award
It's going to be an award-packed few months for Phil Collins. Showbiz411.com reports that the Songwriters Hall of Fame has tapped Collins for its Johnny Mercer Award. The Mercer is the organization's highest honor, bestowed only on artists who are already in the Songwriters Hall of Fame. In receiving the Mercer, the 59-year-old Genesis rocker joins elite company. Billy Joel, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, Carole King, and Paul Simon have all received the award. The Songwriters Hall of Fame will give Collins its Johnny Mercer Award on June 17th at New York's Marriott Marquis Hotel.
On the immediate horizon, Collins will join his Genesis band mates as a 2010 inductee in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The progressive rock group is slated pick up its honor next Monday, March 15th at a ceremony at New York's Waldorf Astoria. |
