Music Royalty Converges In New York For Hall Of Fame Awards
Music royalty descended upon New York City's Waldorf Astoria Hotel on Monday night for The 25th Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. This year's awards assembled The Stooges, Genesis, ABBA, Jimmy Cliff, and The Hollies for induction into one of the industry's most prestigious institutions. While accepting on behalf of The Stooges, frontman Iggy Pop said he was grateful that he and the band were getting a "second act."
On hand to honor the inductees were Phish's Trey Anastasio -- who presented Genesis. Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong -- who presented The Stooges. The E-Street Band's Steve Van Zandt presented The Hollies. Surviving Bee Gees Barry and Robin Gibb presented Swede pop band ABBA and Wyclef Jean presented Jimmy Cliff.
Non-performers were also honored during the star-studded ceremony on Monday. Music executive David Geffen was awarded the Ahmet Ertegun Award. Songwriters Mort Shuman, Jesse Stone and Otis Blackwell, and songwriting teams Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, and Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich were also honored. |
