Rockers Defend ABBA's Rock Hall Induction
ABBA is now officially in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. While the addition of the Swedish pop group has sparked debate over which acts should be included, other members of the Rock Hall's Class of 2010 don't seem to mind sharing the honor with them. Graham Nash, who was inducted as a member of The Hollies, says he believes ABBA is definitely worthy of the recognition.
Inductee Phil Collins, who was honored with Genesis, says a more diverse Rock Hall isn't a bad thing, and welcomes the inclusion of acts who aren't necessarily hardcore rockers. E Street Band guitarist Steven Van Zandt, who is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Nominating Committee, admits the decision-making process is subjective. But he explains that they look to add performers who capture the spirit of rock and roll, not simply its sound. The 2010 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony took place in New York City Monday night. In addition to ABBA, The Hollies, and Genesis, the other inductees included The Stooges and Jimmy Cliff. |
